As a full-time architect and artist, it seems challenging to link both in some way or another in my work,
whether that be in the design or craftsmanship for example.
When learning about architecture, I saw first and foremost the urge of mastering practical tools such as rules, project economics,
design and construction processes and professionnal interactions.
However, creativity in architecture is as important, as many even consider it an artistic profession.
These polarizing aspects of architecture represent the tension I fell when working as an architect and an artist : escaping or concealing the rigidity of architectural norms, and expressing freely one’s creativity.
I have to create my own constraints and rules to shape a fictional world out of any material that I find interesting.
The goal being to make sure that theses shapes, landscapes and architectures stay coherent.
By that I mean that I try to reach some kind of credibility, either through the choice of material or the perceived scale,
making sure the subjects remain linked to architecture and the environment as well as the imaginary.
My works essentially refere to the images and creations built by known civilisations,
and also to nature itself throughout documenting and traveling.
I feel a fascination that puts me both in a contemplative mood and stimulate an intense will to explore.
Except there is a kind of immediacy in working in small scale. Things that took an almost infinite time to take shape in nature,
or that took decades to build by Man, can be created in a very short time with fewer energy on a smaller scale.
It is a form of freedom as well as a limit.
The current general matter of our relation to the environment is intrinsic to the chosen medias.
I’m involved in the process of not throwing away, of re-using materials and giving them new shapes by combinations.
Yet I’m also fascinated with human constronctions that can induce some contradictions in my work that I don’t intend to deny.
Therefore this is the beginning of a reflection on something that could go further in helping to create this encounter between the two practices I’m involved in.
I do not wish my practice to relate eather exclusively to architecture or to art,
but rather to stay open to what it could evolve into, even in other fields such as crafts, event organisation, photography etc.
I believe this form of freedom could lead me to a more diverse way of expression and a more diverse range of experiences in the field
of creation.
