PROFILE
Akamatsu Nelo [Japan]
Born in Tokyo, where he now lives and works. Completed the Graduate School of Advanced Art Expression, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2005. In 2015, he was awarded the Golden Nica in the Ars Electronica Digital Music and Sound Art category for "Chijikinkutsu" (2013-15).
Yokoyama Shohei [Japan]
Born in Okayama, 1985. Glass artist, and part-time lecturer at Tama Art University.
Feeling the breath of life in the transparent and fluid body of glass, he visualizes its inner power through the physical act of blowing air. The glass that expands with the breath of life becomes an embryo, pregnant with signs of life.
Yokoyama has exhibited his works in museums, galleries, and art fairs in Japan and abroad. He was selected as a finalist for the LOEWE Craft Prize 2018 (The DESIGN MUSEUM, UK) and won the Grand Prix at the 15th Okayama Prefecture Mr. I Award for the Promotion of Emerging Artists.
《message》
Nelo Akamatsu and Shohei Yokoyama both focus on the phenomenon of fluid to collaborate for creating an artwork. The work begins with the delicate movement of cold water, and then fuses with glass. The molten red glass expands to the verge of exploding when breathed into, and its form is released as if it were coming to life. We aimed to create a work in which the process of stillness and movement of the fluid can be revealed.
