Hishida Mafumi [Japan]

Scientist and artist. Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Materials Science, University of Tsukuba. Doctor in Science. He is specialized in soft matter physics and physical chemistry. He is interested in the various shapes, patterns, colors, and motions created by liquids and other soft materials. He has received many awards including the Young Scientist Incentive Award from the Physical Society of Japan (2018). He believes that science is a way to discover and express interesting aspects of nature and its beauty, but also a cultural activity that brings spiritual richness. For him science and art share many philosophies, and "Science is art", which is why he tries to join both fields in his practice. Hishida is also an active member of the art collective "creative label nor".
