Kyuta Manami [Japan]
Born in 1985, Manami Kyuta lives and works in Kyoto, Japan. She specialized in lacquerware at Doda Kyoto Municipal High School of Fine Art and Craft, graduating in 2003. From 2005, she spent eight years as an apprentice at a studio in Kyoto, where she mastered the craft of restoring and painting Buddhist statues and temple interiors. While informed by traditional Japanese art, Kyuta’s paintings and painted sculptures are also characterized by an interplay of substance, form and surface that is at once delicate and compelling.
