Moriyama Saki [Japan]

Born in the U.S. Moriyama completed a master’s course in Urushi Lacquering at the Department of Crafts, Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015. Also completed Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture, Kyoto Municipal Technical Training Course for Students of Traditional Handicraft Urushi , Specialized Course.She is currently based in Kyoto.
In Moriyama’s works, which are deeply related to memory, she applies the concepts of time and space to unique patterns, created by polishing multiple layers of lacquer. While accentuating the physical characteristics of lacquer, she explores expressions that evoke a multiplicity of images, closely linked to individual memories and sensations.
