In October 2027, the International Art Festival BIWAKO BIENNALE 2027 “共鳴〜RESONANCE” is about to begin!
This time, artists from Japan and abroad will gather in the historic old town of Omihachiman, transforming the entire town into an art space. We are looking for volunteer and intern staff to help us make this special festival a success!
If you love art, want to get involved with the local community, enjoy talking with people, or are interested in social media and video, you are very welcome. No age or experience requirements!

Take the first step, and new encounters and discoveries are sure to be waiting for you.

Support Staff Requirements

Recruitment Period

《Before the festival: now – Oct 8》

Secretariat support, venue cleaning, help with bringing in artwork and equipment, installation and artist support, workshop and event support

《During the festival: Oct 9 – Nov 28》

Venue reception and invigilation, event support

《After the festival: Nov 29 – Dec 6》

Venue cleaning, help with removing artwork and equipment, artist support

Duties

Secretariat Support

《Publicity》 Mailing and distributing direct mail and flyers, photographing and filming the work in progress
《Planning》 Support for planning and running events during the festival
《Production》 Support for producing and editing promotional videos and printed materials
《Other》 General office work

Installation Support

《Venue preparation》 Cleaning and preparing the buildings used as exhibition venues
《Artist support》 Helping artists install, bring in and remove their works

Venue Support During the Festival

Reception at exhibition venues and support at the information centre during the festival

Language Support

《Support for overseas artists》 Interpreting while also helping with installation
《Visitor support》 Language support for visitors from overseas
《Translation support》 Translating flyers and brochures for non-Japanese speakers

Compensation

Volunteer insurance is provided.
Half day (4 hours): 1,500 yen
Full day: 3,000 yen
Accommodation available (long stays are also possible).
If you would like to receive academic credit, we will consider it under the system of your school or university.
* We apologise, but travel expenses are to be covered by participants.

Benefits

● Participate for a total of 5 days and receive a viewing passport
● Participate for a total of 8 days and receive an exhibition catalogue
* Days outside the “Recruitment Period” do not count towards these benefits.

Eligibility

1. You are interested in and understand the activities of BIWAKO BIENNALE, and can take an active part.
2. If you are 18 or under, you must have your parent's or guardian's consent (a consent form must be submitted).
3. Even if you apply, the Secretariat may decline your registration or participation at its discretion.
