I am approaching contemporary art through ceramic art. As a potter, we create vessels, and I focus on making vessels for the invisible — things without shape or volume. For example, vessels for sounds, vessels for time, vessels for light or rays.
響器 (HIBIKI) is a vessel for sounds. When you produce a sound or speak into HIBIKI, you can hear an echo from it. You can also communicate softly with someone by speaking quietly between the two ends of HIBIKI. I added the concept of communication between the artwork and the visitor.
景器 (KAGAKI) is a vessel for views. I created this conceptual work in Gimhae, South Korea, in 2019. Through KAGAKI, you can see beautiful views or landscapes. I plan to continue developing this concept and hope to create and install works around the world. I wish for the beautiful and peaceful views we see through my works to remain unchanged.
輝器 (KAGAYAKI) is a vessel of light or rays. I made KAGAYAKI’s body from translucent clay and illuminated it from within using LED lights. I began this series after the 3.11 Fukushima disaster in 2011. I hope the light from my works can purify the souls of people as a requiem.
