PROFILE
tarinainanika [Japan/England]
tarinainanika is an international physical theatre company led by Kentaro Suyama and Tania Coke. The company specialises in Corporeal Mime, an artform based on the creativity and physicality of the actor, which was first developed by French theatre master Etienne Decroux. Kentaro and Tania studied and worked for many years in London under the direction of Decroux’ last assistants, Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum, and were members of their acclaimed company Theatre de l’Ange Fou. In 2011 they moved to Japan and established tarinainanika, creating and performing shows across Japan and internationally. In 2020 they opened their own studio, the Flying Carpet Factory, in a renovated warehouse in Osaka. As well as running the company they now also run a full time school where they are busy nurturing the next generation of actor-creators in the tradition of Corporeal Mime.
《message》
This year will be the 5th time we participate in Biwako Biennale. Each time we have had the opportunity to collaborate with wonderful artists in beautiful venues, in Omihachiman and Hikone. And each time we performed a piece unique to that particular situation. This year once again, we are excited to see what kind of creation will emerge by combining the physicality of Corporeal Mime with another unique combination of people and places.
