MESSAGE

Using my original technique of mixed firing, in which I combine glass with clay, I create my works while interpreting the expressions and movements that emerge via heat.
With this technique I create my materials by combining glass and clay, and imbue the glass with an organic ceramic quality that differs from its normal transparency.
My works are inspired by the deeply moving and awesome sensation derived from the changes that occur in natural things over a long period of time – for example, the formation of fossils and minerals and the movement of the earth’s crust. Combining glass with clay enables me to physically incorporate these features and the passage of time into my works.
In firing with a kiln, you witness the moment when string-like movements, cracks, and other features appear in the glass due to heat and gravity. After the work cools, this vigorous quality is retained in its form.
By making the most of the element of chance in my materials, I set out to create works that draw out their latent charm by engaging in a dialogue with the pieces as I make them.
In this way, I strive to realize artistic expressions and creations that would never have been possible with glass or ceramic alone.
