PROFILE
Zhou Yiqiao [CHINA]
Born in China, completed Master’s program and doctoral program in Lacquer Art at Kyoto City University of Arts. As a lacquer artist, I work primarily between Japan and China while serving as a lecturer in Lacquer Art at Nanjing University of the Arts in China.
In 2023, I unveiled Dream of the Yellow Millet (a classical Chinese metaphor for fleeting dreams), a large-scale air balloon installation inspired by Chinese celebratory culture, exhibited on Teramachi-Kyogoku Street in Kyoto. After that, Misunderstanding Between Red and Green, a balloon artwork featuring traditional peony pattern as motifs, exhibited at the Rokko Meets Art Festival 2024.
For the Biwako Biennale 2025, in addition the air balloon works, I will present a lacquer installation using fiber as its base material. This lacquer artwork aims to express the resonance between East Asian perspectives on nature and its craft traditions, blending lacquer’s timeless depth with innovative structural forms.
