Pre-BIWAKO BIENNALE 2022 will take place at Nijo-jo Castle Ninomaru-goten Palace’s kitchen (Daidokoro and Okiyodokoro), from Sep 17th (Sat) to Oct 2th (Sun).
On On Oct 1 (Sat), visitors can enjoy a special late-night opening ! In collaboration with Nuit Blanche Kyoto, the exhibition will be open until 9 pm.

Nijo-jo Castle
(Ninomaru-goten Palace Daidokoro and Okiyodokoro)

The Tokugawa Shogunate was based in Kyoto's Nijo-jo Castle. It was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603, to be his residence in the capital. The Palace’s main gate, Karamon Gate, with its superbly coloured carvings of 'pine, bamboo and plum with cranes' and 'chinese lion' motifs, is a highlight - and so is the impressive East Main Gate. Both are classified as Important Cultural Property. The gorgeous architecture and paintings on the walls of Ninomaru Goten are a sight to behold.
