The BIWAKO BIENNALE is an international art festival set in three distinctive and culturally rich areas of Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture.
Each venue offers a unique story and atmosphere, creating an immersive experience that engages all your senses.

Getting to OMIHACHIMAN City

By Train and Shinkansen

The nearest stations to Omihachiman are JR Omihachiman Station and Omi Railway Omihachiman Station.

There is no parking available at the information center. Please use nearby parking facilities such as the Shiei Obata Kanko Parking Lot or Taga Kanko Parking Lot.

Getting to OMIHACHIMAN Old Town Area

The OMIHACHIMAN Old Town Area is about 7 minutes by bus from JR/Ohmi Railway Omihachiman Station.

Get off at the “Hachiman-bori (Osugicho) / Hachimanyama Ropeway Entrance” bus stop, and you’ll arrive in the Omihachiman Old Town Area.

Exhibition venues are spread throughout the area around the bus stop.

By Bus

To reach the Omihachiman Old Town Area from Omihachiman Station, take the Omi Railway bus from the North Exit, platforms 6 or 7, and ride to Hachimanbori (Osugi-cho) Hachimanyama Ropeway Entrance (the venue in Omihachiman Old Town). The journey takes about 7 minutes.

*All buses departing from platforms 6 and 7 will stop at Hachiman-bori (Osugi-cho) Hachiman'yama Ropeway Entrance.

On Foot

From JR or Omi Railway Omihachiman Station, it's about a 28-minute walk to the venue.

Getting to CHŌMEIJI Temple Area

By Car

From the Meishin Expressway, take either the Ryuo IC or Gamo Smart IC and drive for about 40 minutes.

*Please note that Gamo Smart IC is for ETC (Japanese highway card) users only.

A free parking lot with space for approximately 30 standard cars is available near the 8th station, close to the summit.
From the parking lot, you’ll need to climb about 100 steps to reach the venue.

By Bus

From the North Exit of Omihachiman Station, take the Omi Railway bus from platform 6 to Chomeiji.
The venue is about a 30-minute walk from the bus stop.

From there, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the temple, including a climb up 808 stone steps.

Getting to OKISHIMA Island Area

You can reach the island by taking the Okishima Ferry from Horikiri Port.

To access the Okishima venue, please use the Okishima Passenger Boat.
To reach the Horikiri Port boarding area, take either the Omi Railway Bus or the Akakon Bus.

*Please note that trains and buses may run late. If you're concerned about timing, we recommend allowing some extra time for your journey.

by Bus

To reach Horikiri Port, take the Omi Railway bus from the North Exit of Omihachiman Station.
Board the bus heading to "Chomeiji via Kyukamura" and get off at Horikiri Port. The ride takes about 32 minutes.

About 10 minutes by Okishima Passenger Boat.

Cars cannot access Okishima. You will need to park at the ""Okishima Town Visitor Parking"" near Horikiri Port. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the ferry terminal, so please allow extra time.
